Who Are All These People?

Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t Facebook much, just enough to know that “Facebook” is now used as a verb as well as a noun.

When I do go to Facebook, it’s usually for just a few minutes and I just scan through a few things until I get to the place I left last or until I no longer recognize anyone.

That’s one of the things that Facebook has changed over the years I’ve been avoiding it. Once upon a time, the posts in my feed were from people I knew or friends of friends. Now my feed is filled with posts from strangers. Sometimes I can find a trace of some association with me—a comment by a friend, or a like from the friend of a friend—but oftentimes I fail to find any at all.

Occasionally I am moved to comment on some post or other, but a closer look shows that my comment will be to a total stranger. Why would I do that? Why do others?

I still don’t post much, though I do lurk more often than before. Will more involvement in postings and comments lead to a feed that is more familiar? Or is Facebook determined to connect us all, willing or no, to the wider world?

Who are all these people? And why are they on my Facebook page?
