I’m yearning for the company of a dog. It’s been on my mind for some time now.
I’ve been without a dog for almost two years, and I’ve deeply missed the company. When I lost my golden retriever Freeway, though, I made myself a promise not to get another while I was still working. I always lived with that absent-single-mother guilt over all the time Freeway spent waiting for me to come home. I was determined not to subject another dog to such benign neglect.
Since leaving work, though, it’s been on my mind pretty heavily. I have a things-to-get-done-before-dog list I’ve been working on and it’s almost complete. Now I’m surveying the house with a new dog’s perspective in mind and doing some last-minute pickup.
I have meetings scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. After that, I have a week with no commitments. A week where I could spend all day getting acquainted with a new dog. I think that’s just what I’ll do.
Stay tuned. There may be a new BFF in the offing soon.
