I watch a lot of YouTube. Not only do I directly search for some videos, I also do a lot of clicking around on the other suggested links that load with every selected video. It’s a bit like going down the rabbit hole. You just never know what you’re likely to find.
Over the years I have found some pretty dark stuff strictly by chance.
In the last few days, I’ve had two brushes with the fringe. The first time the algorithm seemed to intuit that I was interested in videos about pedophiles. In fact, most of them seemed to be of the “these are the TRUE pedophiles but they are protected by demons on high” flavor.
Today, the theme was conspiracy—all the “true” stuff that “they” don’t want you to know. All over YouTube, of course, where “they” are somehow mysteriously powerless.
I’m not searching these sort of videos. I’m not watching them either. So what is summoning such drivel?
There are a lot of wackos out there. My country has gone insane.
